13th July 2026 - the usual monthly Riverfly Sampling was carried out in the river Granta by the ford, and the results are presented below.
The recent dry period has left the water level very low in the river, with parts of the river bed now exposed along much of the river. In terms of the riverfly species counted, numbers are generally lower at this time of year, but there were very few smaller larvae found in the samples, and numbers recorded this month were lower than July last year.
Unusually however, several fish were caught including four Stickleback and seven Bullhead.
