26th May. David F took this lovely photo of a female Large Red Damselfly in his garden recently.
The lovely red abdomen has black and yellow bands at the segments, red or (as in this case) yellow stripes on the shoulders of the thorax, and black legs (Small Red Damselfly have reddish legs). Females have three forms - this being the more common 'typica' form - with two segments of black at the end of the abdomen.
