Brown Argus butterfly

Anne D-N spotted a Brown Argus butterfly in her garden on the Settlements (on 1st Aug). She confirmed the identification from both the underwings and upperwings, as they can be quite tricky to distinguish from some of the 'blues'.

Happily for Anne, the butterfly turned up in her garden at the time she was doing her Big Butterfly Count.  This nationwide butterfly survey runs from 17th July to 9th August - further details on the Butterfly Conservation website https://bigbutterflycount.butterfly-conservation.org/.  Why not give it a go, it only takes 15 minutes - if you do, please also let Jennifer know what you see.

On a related matter, Derek T saw a Small Copper butterfly along the path between Cambridge Road and Church Lane on 30th July.
