Stock Dove and Woodpigeon

Derek T saw a pair of Stock Dove in his garden today, which very conveniently were positioned near a Woodpigeon, allowing us to see the differences.

The Stock Dove is somewhat smaller and slimmer, with a prominent iridescent green and pink patch on the neck, a black eye and a dark wing bar.  The chunkier Woodpigeon also has some pink and green on the neck, but this is dominated by a large white patch, with no black wing bar.  In flight, the Woodpigeon also has a characteristic white wing band.
