A pair of Nuthatch on garden feeders

For quite a while now, Jennifer H has regularly had a Nuthatch and a Great Spotted Woodpecker visit her garden feeders, but today she was treated to a pair of Nuthatch visiting at the same time.

One - the female - appeared a little paler and with buff flanks, whereas the other - the male - was generally darker with strongly chestnut-coloured flanks.

Female Nuthatch - generally less strongly coloured

Male Nuthatch - note the chestnut-coloured flanks
