They were first reported along Bourn Bridge Road and Cambridge Road in the second half of February, and more recently in Lewis Crescent. </p><p>These small finches are largely winter visitors to southern parts of the UK, often seen in mixed flocks with other finches on bird feeders. In summer they breed in coniferous forests further north in the UK, in northern Europe and in Scandinavia, although some also breed around Thetford Forest.</p><p>Males are easily distinguished from other finches by their smaller size, black cap and bib, greeny-yellow breast and rump, and darker wings with yellow barring. Females are generally less brightly coloured, with a dark-streaked pale breast, but retaining the yellow rump.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI5BZoHh3v7LtTdR7fAJ5qpYTDnFHwoUCBqraIcV3w4KdBQBM-1e7zR4YPRIYlZuV1Mzg6-436gzT82nYAOam0zDcj2ewXGfYfJqETUq7US_2NCOonL7vQZRwy4nFZWukbe_zHBmZnjZEpxdBVlHG4INYhZjzwi2BcRViJM8BsN_PcfKNtHcz4oTQ9Up4/s2592/037A9830%20Siskin%20male%2022Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2592" data-original-width="2592" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI5BZoHh3v7LtTdR7fAJ5qpYTDnFHwoUCBqraIcV3w4KdBQBM-1e7zR4YPRIYlZuV1Mzg6-436gzT82nYAOam0zDcj2ewXGfYfJqETUq7US_2NCOonL7vQZRwy4nFZWukbe_zHBmZnjZEpxdBVlHG4INYhZjzwi2BcRViJM8BsN_PcfKNtHcz4oTQ9Up4/w640-h640/037A9830%20Siskin%20male%2022Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Male Siskin. As he watched, the flock swooped down into a cotoneaster bush below, and proceeded to rapidly gulp down a few berries each, before returning to the treetop. This happened several times before the birds flew off. </p><p>Having been alerted by Derek, Andy M joined him and after about 30 minutes, the flock returned to the same treetop, repeating the 'swoop-gulp-retreat' performance several times until all the berries had been stripped from the bush. A magical sight, despite the murky weather.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiPK1guK0n1-tFkLNFLznLqOkV0hyphenhyphen-XFrhyphenhyphenRXBWHHvgKuGWOGyQpUTSHtxYyg-y5AZemqYHZhTybmo45sNnbWt_H3nz9TJ6hxjaWQ8HFLS2wEyeub9XPhJkDXl2kx8UKwljg3f06oeDn8vDyi-3qK5_aF5lT3S56ceHuehIHIafqdlVXHtzi97JdzT-D4/s2715/037A9645%20Waxwing%2010Mar2024%20BBRd%20AM.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; It seemed to retain the usual dark neck ring of the Collared Dove, as well as the usual red eye and red legs. Additionally, the plumage appeared to be soaked through, although over the time the bird was feeding it did not seem to change or dry out. Otherwise it was behaving and feeding perfectly normally, and could fly without problem.</p><p>It's possible this bird is <b>melanistic</b>, which is caused by a genetic mutation that results in an increased amount of dark pigmentation in some, or in this case all, of the feathers. It is unclear why the plumage appears wet through. Andy emailed the BTO to seek their opinion.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdDzxJctVviJPsQNYwSZjikWxE0eYbZmVUeDyckllPfgWtauJpy5t03RY7jyTfKa7zh7zuEMu2MZFnwnO0397FMB-eRctl-Uyvx5VfaqWWOArpxzm9xhyphenhyphencg4MTdk_hYz47EwmKDQIFtoKFG6xpEOvwyDaiqcBuERv0amJlv50XpoMQpbjaZTbpX_FogB4/s5472/037A9639%20possible%20melanistic%20Collared%20Dove%2007Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3648" data-original-width="5472" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdDzxJctVviJPsQNYwSZjikWxE0eYbZmVUeDyckllPfgWtauJpy5t03RY7jyTfKa7zh7zuEMu2MZFnwnO0397FMB-eRctl-Uyvx5VfaqWWOArpxzm9xhyphenhyphencg4MTdk_hYz47EwmKDQIFtoKFG6xpEOvwyDaiqcBuERv0amJlv50XpoMQpbjaZTbpX_FogB4/w640-h426/037A9639%20possible%20melanistic%20Collared%20Dove%2007Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Andy Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15361208509745009682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932096928509038174.post-86948487953620540842024-03-11T14:09:00.005+00:002024-03-11T14:09:51.210+00:00The tapping Long-tailed Tit<p>4th March 2024 - for the last few days, a <b>Long-tailed Tit</b> could be heard tapping the windows at Andy M's house. Typically, the bird perches on the window ledge before continually tap at its reflection, sometimes getting quite agitated and flying up and down the window tapping as it goes. Eventually tiring of this, it moves away, only to see its reflection in the next window and starts the whole performance again. </p><p>Quite common at this time of year, this (usually male) behaviour comes from fact that the male birds are starting to attract a mate and set up a territory. Seeing the reflection as an intruding male, the bird instinctively reacts by trying to scare it away, becoming increasingly frustrated as 'the other male' just doesn't seem to get the message!</p><p>On the upside, this may mean this male has established a nesting territory in his garden, and it does give really close views of this rather cute little bird.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiAhDuZ4Y_2Jb6powB1oXX8ERieG2_TczE8DVbTwsJnffb7_lRllv8N5nLghwn_5XK10hGu2I-WmR103NQNNbnsBMAU34ykFUybn7Qztw2ZpLU_foSmogzu5PZE5sMKxBkwMZmAJe4s5FDI5hzu9q6Ru9dlfJ40vyJk3ZQhIGbzJf_ruX9T3ZT3pZL58k/s5472/037A9622%20Long-tailed%20Tit%2003Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3648" data-original-width="5472" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiAhDuZ4Y_2Jb6powB1oXX8ERieG2_TczE8DVbTwsJnffb7_lRllv8N5nLghwn_5XK10hGu2I-WmR103NQNNbnsBMAU34ykFUybn7Qztw2ZpLU_foSmogzu5PZE5sMKxBkwMZmAJe4s5FDI5hzu9q6Ru9dlfJ40vyJk3ZQhIGbzJf_ruX9T3ZT3pZL58k/w640-h426/037A9622%20Long-tailed%20Tit%2003Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmUzl4_vbNId2wah3cMnMFAUmln9VV__1K4ISG4dQe37-DkTNtjlgVUMolGUNZiga9guQ58aRjPu30lainf7o4n2KoYw3Y5Z0bBRSA-Ma9gBb7qD0zs47HxNG5pnGtiNK1AGLulNd3vyh9IxB7S3_CxQ_CUpmwxdU8mmU96c8A87P50R3wn53LpXQ9UaY/s2344/037A9627%20Long-tailed%20Tit%2004Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2344" data-original-width="2344" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmUzl4_vbNId2wah3cMnMFAUmln9VV__1K4ISG4dQe37-DkTNtjlgVUMolGUNZiga9guQ58aRjPu30lainf7o4n2KoYw3Y5Z0bBRSA-Ma9gBb7qD0zs47HxNG5pnGtiNK1AGLulNd3vyh9IxB7S3_CxQ_CUpmwxdU8mmU96c8A87P50R3wn53LpXQ9UaY/w640-h640/037A9627%20Long-tailed%20Tit%2004Mar2024%206LC%20AM.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs46ZXFMsBwuefZC4lFUSL-LBlpEnDghzHb_YsH8FqGxo1N0aiJyMzsY7u5VmwxlMOOTUAb-7Z0yMiJYjLSvci3CUnuxEXSVe4u_aGFXt-8n28tPb_YU04fCJaSr8odr_4cYAX11PNUxZi8WN_MOVAmwEeONs3g3AnQX6i0f0jQvgTtfMQSpjsVu4PVVI/s2035/037A9628%20Long-tailed%20Tit%2004Mar2024%206LC%20AM2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2035" data-original-width="2035" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs46ZXFMsBwuefZC4lFUSL-LBlpEnDghzHb_YsH8FqGxo1N0aiJyMzsY7u5VmwxlMOOTUAb-7Z0yMiJYjLSvci3CUnuxEXSVe4u_aGFXt-8n28tPb_YU04fCJaSr8odr_4cYAX11PNUxZi8WN_MOVAmwEeONs3g3AnQX6i0f0jQvgTtfMQSpjsVu4PVVI/w640-h640/037A9628%20Long-tailed%20Tit%2004Mar2024%206LC%20AM2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Andy Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15361208509745009682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932096928509038174.post-21288266486611500912024-03-11T13:20:00.008+00:002024-03-11T13:22:12.971+00:00February 2024 - Summary of Sightings around the Abingtons<p></p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 0cm 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;"><i><u><span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: black; font-size: 10pt;">February 2024<o:p></o:p></span></u></i></p>

reported this month in 243 records from 13 reporters. Most notable amongst these
was a Barn Owl in GA church, Blackcap and Siskin being seen in gardens, and three
Woodcock and a flock of Waxwing, both on GP.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">A <b>Barn Owl </b>again
found its way into GA church on 15th, presumably sheltering from the persistent
rain this month (<i><a href="https://abington-naturewatch.blogspot.com/2024/03/barn-owl-takes-shelter.html">see
blog</a></i>). Following consultation with the Barn Owl Trust, it was
encouraged to exit via the door, left open at dusk. A <b>Tawny Owl</b> were heard
on 6th and 24th.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">A flock of 20 <b>Waxwing</b>
was seen in trees around a carpark on GP on 29th, the first record this year in
the village, despite good numbers being seen around Cambridge in this ‘irruptive’
year (<i><a href="https://abington-naturewatch.blogspot.com/2024/03/waxwings-in-abingtons-finally.html">see
blog</a></i>).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Three <b>Woodcock</b>
were also spotted one evening around the cricket pitch on GP (19th).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;"><b>Redwing</b> and <b>Fieldfare</b>
were both reported twice, the latter along the ORC early in the month, and the former
on GP and along Cambridge Rd on 25th. A <b>Siskin</b>, another winter visitor
to Abington, was seen on feeders on Cambridge Rd and Bourn Bridge Rd on 18th
and 27th – these being the first reports this winter in the village. A <b>Blackcap</b>
was also seen in Sluice Wood, these most often also being winter visitors from Europe.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">On GP lake, two pairs
of <b>Mandarin Duck</b> were seen on the river, and on the adjacent flooded
fields, a flock of <b>Black-headed Gull</b>, a <b>Lesser Black-backed Gull</b>
and a <b>Grey Heron</b> were seen on 11th, and on the lake, a two <b>Cormorant</b>
and a <b>Moorhen</b> joined the <b>Mallard</b> there. <b>A Reed Bunting</b> was
heard singing from the reeds, and a small flock of <b>Meadow Pipit</b> were
seen.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">Up to three <b>Buzzard</b>
were spotted around the village, a <b>Kestrel</b> and a <b>Sparrowhawk</b> were
both seen several times, and a <b>Red Kite</b> was noted twice. A <b>Raven</b>
was also seen flying over the ORC.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">Up to four <b>Magpie</b>
were seen widely, and 1-2 <b>Jay</b> were seen on GP (<i><a href="https://abington-naturewatch.blogspot.com/2024/02/jay.html">see blog</a></i>)
and in a Cambridge Rd garden, as was a <b>Red-legged Partridge</b> on two occasions.
A <b>Pheasant</b> was seen along the ORC, and <b>Skylark</b> were heard singing
both along the ORC and along North Rd. <b>Song Thrush</b> were also regularly
heard singing around the villages, often throughout the day.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 3pt 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">A <b>Goldcrest</b> was
seen at Hall Farm, and both <b>Green</b> <b>Woodpecker</b> and <b>Great Spotted
Woodpecker</b> (heard drumming) were reported from GP and 1-2 gardens. A few <b>Pied
Wagtail</b> were seen on GP and the Perse sports fields, and 1-2 <b>Robin</b>, <b>Dunnock,
Blackbird</b> and <b>Wren</b> were spotted at several locations.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 1.0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 0cm 1cm; text-indent: -1cm;">Reasonable numbers of<b>
Goldfinch</b>, <b>Greenfinch</b> and <b>Chaffinch</b> were seen in several
gardens, as were <b>Blue Tit</b>, <b>Great Tit</b>, <b>Coal Tit</b> and <b>Long-tailed
Tit</b>. <b>House Sparrow</b> were seen in three gardens, and a murmuration of
c400 <b>Starling</b> was seen over North Rd on 20th.<o:p></o:p></p>

Over the following weeks, these colourful winter visitors from Scandinavia slowly worked their way south and west reaching Cambridgeshire around mid-December.</p><p>Very small numbers of <b>Bohemian Waxwing</b> (to given them their full name) find their way across to northern Britain most winters, but occasionally when the berries run short in Scandinavia, this species can 'irrupt' across the North Sea with huge numbers visiting the UK for several months over the winter period. The last major 'irruption' was in 2012-2013, so for many this current winter's event was a spectacle not to be missed. </p><p>During the run up to Christmas, small flocks of <b>Bohemian Waxwing</b> were being watched avidly in Coton and by the railway station in Great Shelford, but throughout January locally the birds seemed to be remaining largely within Cambridge. However, as these flock methodologically stripped their favourite berries from the trees there, they would inevitably need to move on, and finally on 29th February a flock of 20 was spotted on Granta Park by Darren B. Luckily he had his camera, and took a few photos.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnTBaBldAY8bVwIFLsLc0lV5odh1BCwYkr1CpJ_7tLeVpZNFBEe1QV-07fkUNSa3T6vKOjN769_FIvYmAoCM7KYOqTB0g5O1Io7SMOei6R1v1-IIoGDVfrfMfFlmxe9xLpeIqkR9rp1uGr__LaKInRmgpcSPPtdkpYsacC6I3w0KSHzsDX7GX9H4ZI6sU/s1664/1000011810%20Waxwing%2029Feb2024%20GP%20AKB%20carpark%20Darren%20Bast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1233" data-original-width="1664" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnTBaBldAY8bVwIFLsLc0lV5odh1BCwYkr1CpJ_7tLeVpZNFBEe1QV-07fkUNSa3T6vKOjN769_FIvYmAoCM7KYOqTB0g5O1Io7SMOei6R1v1-IIoGDVfrfMfFlmxe9xLpeIqkR9rp1uGr__LaKInRmgpcSPPtdkpYsacC6I3w0KSHzsDX7GX9H4ZI6sU/w640-h474/1000011810%20Waxwing%2029Feb2024%20GP%20AKB%20carpark%20Darren%20Bast.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYzZG8oisbsvCwyD8ExPWGRhJKkzhad8sUJWsBsgZZiZ7xz9_5MF0mEDbaJdJzt6NSDIETMKHMGC_pGCdOMACUKM1N17Qwq-CtlzaYrMtyDGvXLBIUTghCaDoBWW9ueLNVFe6-QyMtTDsEabvqamHScBZti2Cefcpyts9WJCkgH_ekpuKqNqCafJxItoM/s1813/1000011812%20Waxwing%2029Feb2024%20GP%20AKB%20carpark%20Darren%20Bast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1813" data-original-width="1225" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYzZG8oisbsvCwyD8ExPWGRhJKkzhad8sUJWsBsgZZiZ7xz9_5MF0mEDbaJdJzt6NSDIETMKHMGC_pGCdOMACUKM1N17Qwq-CtlzaYrMtyDGvXLBIUTghCaDoBWW9ueLNVFe6-QyMtTDsEabvqamHScBZti2Cefcpyts9WJCkgH_ekpuKqNqCafJxItoM/w432-h640/1000011812%20Waxwing%2029Feb2024%20GP%20AKB%20carpark%20Darren%20Bast.jpg" width="432" /></a></div><p></p>Andy Mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15361208509745009682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-932096928509038174.post-56458607728904239942024-03-11T10:25:00.001+00:002024-03-11T10:25:29.149+00:00Barn Owl takes shelter<p>16th February 2024 - a report from Betsy G that there was a 'white owl' in the nave of Great Abington church certainly caught the attention of some in the village, including David F who went to investigate. </p><p>The owl in question was a <b>Barn Owl </b>which had apparently been sheltering in the church for a few days, probably to avoid the extremely wet weather we recently experienced - something owls do as their feathers are not as waterproof as other birds. The question was how to encourage the owl out of the church before the next service. After consulting with the Barn Owl Trust, it was agreed to leave the church door open for a short while at dusk to allow the owl to find its way out, which it duly did. Quite an experience for all!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9zDsuZCXRWj0akSXn0suyhLPay8LMxEV3HfOqnoQLb6tkIeHdIT9920iMwxo-dvxFOSyWlfwOoJR3xMmUJult1nZVVNgHMLqeRXh8ZT8PyvslJSDsc284LOkVtkZL2tEafsFXvLSQCaLCGCsX-dEvsTEOFC2gVcmBOfeZP-qvWucZsdZBjCpsVuLKMEQ/s360/image0%20Barn%20Owl%2015Feb2023%20GA%20Church%20Betsy%20Gutteridge.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; It was World Wetlands Day and the Ouse Washes, on which Welney sits, are flooded at this time of year providing the perfect wetland habitat for a good variety of ducks, swans and geese, as well as other water birds such as egrets and waders.</p><p>Following heavy rains last month, the water levels had dropped again such that the islands were once again above water, and there was good access to most of the hides.</p><p>Of particular interest was a <b>Scaup</b>, a scarce duck that visits the UK in winter, and which is similar in many respects to a <b>Tufted Duck</b>, but has a grey back. Around the main observatory there were good numbers of <b>Pochard</b>, and of <b>Whooper Swan </b>(best identified from other swans by the yellow wedge-shaped markings on the bill), and more distantly, it was lovely to see good numbers of <b>Pintail </b>and a few <b>Goldeneye</b>, both very strikingly elegant ducks, as well as <b>Wigeon, Teal, Shovelor </b>and <b>Shelduck</b>. </p><p>In terms of waders, there were very large numbers of <b>Lapwing </b>and <b>Black-tailed Godwit</b>, alongside an occasional <b>Redshank </b>and <b>Dunlin</b>, often rising en masse when a <b>Marsh Harrier </b>flew over a little too close for comfort. A <b>Great White Egret </b>was also visible on the far side of the wash.</p><p>On the Lady Fen side, a flock of 10 (!) <b>Cattle Egret</b> was easily visible from the cafe, as were the usual <b>Tree Sparrow, </b><b>House Sparrow</b> and a few <b>Reed Bunting </b>on the feeders.</p><p>Overall a total of 32 species were enjoyed!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; As well as recording the species, the maximum number of each seen at any one time was also recorded.</p><p>As previously, Derek T invited those participants in the Abingtons to also send their reported species to him. This year, he received 18 lists, which between them included a total of 28 different species. Many thanks to all who took part and sent in their sightings.</p><p>The Top 5 species most commonly reported were: <b>Blue Tit</b> (1st), <b>Robin </b>and <b>Woodpigeon </b>(2nd =), <b>Blackbird </b>(4th) and <b>Great Tit</b> and <b>Jackdaw </b>(5th =). The most numerous, in terms of maximum count being <b>Jackdaw</b>, <b>Woodpigeon </b>and <b>House Sparrow</b>.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgupir8W5OJYPwRFHH_PpW3AO0KMstsacaFBuD-hCHwKhdBg3y1eUERqn49BQJBBUIaZIRIQ8bTcwoZbz1ghNO5-XsznkrjK-D3XkoBjWCkIPsDgPkqY_z-6zhkno2o2AUKvPGHtO79mD8M9SePl9W209nDNH0qqwbm1iGcoeFJ5tu8zlNEsgH8a1QnC1o/s872/BGBW%202024%20table.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="872" data-original-width="791" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgupir8W5OJYPwRFHH_PpW3AO0KMstsacaFBuD-hCHwKhdBg3y1eUERqn49BQJBBUIaZIRIQ8bTcwoZbz1ghNO5-XsznkrjK-D3XkoBjWCkIPsDgPkqY_z-6zhkno2o2AUKvPGHtO79mD8M9SePl9W209nDNH0qqwbm1iGcoeFJ5tu8zlNEsgH8a1QnC1o/w580-h640/BGBW%202024%20table.JPG" width="580" /></a></div><div><br /></div>A comparison with results from the BGBW last year, when a total of 16 lists included 30 different species is shown below. <div>Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Top 4 most commonly reported species were the same both years, and although the order was slightly different, <b>Blue Tit </b>topped the charts both years.
